  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 cups short pasta (penne or shells)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Dried Italian herbs (basil, oregano, thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with diced onion and minced garlic until browned (about 7-10 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce and dried herbs. Let simmer for about five minutes.
  4. Cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente; drain well. Combine with the beef mixture in the skillet.
  5. Layer half of the pasta-beef mix in the baking dish and sprinkle with half of the cheese. Repeat with remaining mixture and top with remaining cheese.
  6. Cover with foil (shiny side down) and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
