Ingredients
- 1 large head of green cabbage
- 1 lb ground meat (beef, turkey, or plant-based)
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups canned tomato sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Italian seasoning (optional)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and blanch it in boiling water for about 5 minutes until softened.
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent. Mix together cooked rice, sautéed onion and garlic, ground meat, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning in a bowl.
- Once cooled, take one cabbage leaf at a time; place about two tablespoons of filling at the base of each leaf. Fold in the sides and roll tightly.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the tomato sauce until simmering.
- Spoon some sauce into a baking dish and arrange the rolls seam-side down. Pour remaining sauce over them and cover with foil. Bake for about 45 minutes.
- Allow to rest for a few minutes before serving.
