- 4 cups sliced strawberries
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
- 1/2 cup white sugar (for cake)
- 2 large eggs
- 3 tbsp melted butter (plus 4 tbsp for topping)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with melted butter.
- Combine sliced strawberries with 1/3 cup sugar in a bowl and let sit for about 10 minutes.
- In another bowl, mix together 1/2 cup sugar and melted butter. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and buttermilk until smooth. Gradually fold in flour until just combined.
- Pour the remaining melted butter into the prepared pan, followed by the macerated strawberries.
- Pour the batter over the strawberries and bake for about 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cool for about 10 minutes before flipping onto a serving plate.
