Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups all purpose flour Spoon and level for accuracy.
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda Helps cookies rise and achieve a soft texture.
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder Works in tandem with baking soda for the perfect lift.
  • 3/4 tsp kosher salt Enhances sweetness and balances flavors.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Must be melted and cooled for best results.
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar Adds moisture and a rich flavor profile.
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar For sweetness and a slight crunch.
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract Infuses warmth and depth into the cookies.
  • 1 large egg Binds ingredients together and adds richness.
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Choose your favorite brand for quality results.
  • flaky sea salt Added at the end for enhanced flavor contrast.

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and kosher salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar using a whisk. Whisk vigorously for about 1-2 minutes until you achieve a paste-like consistency before adding in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually pour in the dry mixture into your wet ingredients while folding gently with a rubber spatula. Leave some streaks of flour in the dough before adding in the semisweet chocolate chips to prevent overmixing.
  5. Using a large cookie scoop or measuring cup, scoop out portions of dough onto your prepared baking sheet—five per sheet for large cookies or six for regular-sized ones. Bake them in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes depending on your desired gooeyness.
  6. Once baked, let your cookies cool on a rack after topping them with extra chocolate chips and flaky sea salt. Allow them to cool slightly before indulging in these heavenly treats!
