- Cook until thickened, then chill the custard.

- Add eggs and warm milk, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead in softened butter until smooth and elastic.
- Let dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
- Punch down and divide dough into equal portions.
- Flatten each piece, spoon custard in the center, and seal.
- Place in a buttered baking pan with space between.
- Top each bun with chocolate chips.
- Cover and let rise until puffy.
- Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
