- Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a ramekin with butter or olive oil.
- Crack 1–2 eggs into the ramekin, being careful not to break the yolk.
- Sprinkle salt and pepper over the eggs.
- Add cream, cheese, or herbs if desired.
- Place ramekin in a baking dish. Add hot water to the dish until halfway up the ramekin.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes for soft yolks or up to 18 minutes for firmer eggs.
- Remove from the oven, garnish with herbs, and serve hot.
