  • 450 g ground beef
  • 4 medium russet potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
Sauce and Cheese
  • 250 g cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon parsley chopped (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain the fat.
  3. Add chopped onion and garlic to the skillet; cook until soft, about 3 minutes.
  4. In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Slowly add milk while whisking constantly. Cook until thickened.
  6. Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  7. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
  8. Add half the beef mixture, then half the cream sauce.
  9. Repeat with remaining potatoes, beef, and sauce.
  10. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  11. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  12. Uncover and bake for 20 more minutes until golden and bubbly.
  13. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
