  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Enhances overall flavor profile.
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder Contributes savory notes to the seasoning mix.
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper For a kick of spice that elevates the dish.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Essential for bringing out all flavors.
  • 1/2 cup honey The star ingredient that offers sweetness to balance the spice.
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar Gives acidity to cut through richness.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Introduces umami depth to the sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Adds complexity with a slight tang.
  • 2 tablespoons butter To create a rich, creamy consistency in the cheese sauce.
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni The perfect pasta shape for holding onto cheese sauce.
  • 4 cups whole milk Ensures creaminess in your mac and cheese.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese A classic choice that melts beautifully.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Offers stretchiness in texture.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard Elevates flavor within the cheese sauce.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder A repeat addition for an extra kick in the cheese sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon flour To thicken the cheese sauce properly.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt For seasoning as you prepare your mac and cheese.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Adds an additional layer of flavor to balance richness.

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Season both sides of the chicken breasts thoroughly with ground black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and salt. Cook undisturbed for about 6-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir while scraping up any browned bits. Bring to a gentle simmer for approximately 5 minutes until it thickens slightly. Return the chicken to the skillet and let it simmer again for another 5 minutes.
  3. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Add elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, about 7-8 minutes. Drain and set aside without rinsing.
  4. In another large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour to create a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes. Slowly pour in whole milk while whisking continuously until thickened, about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Once the cheese sauce is smooth, add shredded cheddar and mozzarella, stirring gently to coat the warm macaroni evenly. Serve alongside the sweet and spicy honey-glazed chicken.
